TIM YOUNG - PIANIST, COMPOSER, EDUCATOR, VETERAN, AND SPEAKER

Pianist, composer, educator, and entrepreneur Tim Young served as pianist with The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors – the official touring big band of the United States Army for 20 years. As a part of the Jazz Ambassadors, Young performed extensively across the United States and around the world, connecting the American people to its Army.

Young joined the Army Jazz Ambassadors in 1998 after completing his Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 1997. Prior to that, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies at Shenandoah University in 1993.

Among some of Young’s most prestigious performances were with the Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Pops Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Young has also appeared on Good Morning America, Fox News, and on the Colbert Report with the Army Jazz Ambassadors. Throughout his 25 years as a professional musician, Young has performed with notable musicians and artists such as Phil Woods, Kevin Mahogany, Bobby Shew, Ben Vereen, Marvin Hamlisch, Slide Hampton, Greg Gisbert, Dick Oatts, Andy Bey, Ernie Watts, Eric Marienthal, Rebecca Parris, Carmen Bradford, Karrin Allyson, Halie Loren, Tom Williams, Gary Thomas, Vincent Gardner, and Bill Watrous.

Young is the founder and proprietor of Young’s School of Gospel and Jazz Piano, LLC which began in 2011. It is at this school where Young teaches jazz piano lessons and other contemporary music styles such as gospel, Latin, and funk. Many of Young’s students have received awards and scholarships for their talents in music and have attended some of the most prestigious music schools in the country. Young is also the founder of an organization called Young Society of Outstanding Professionals International which is comprised of a network of young professionals aiming to do big and great things in the world.

As a band leader, Young recorded and produced a CD with his brother Alphonso (drums) titled Tales of Time in 2006. He can be heard as a sideman on two recordings with The Shook-Russo Quartet featuring Greg Gisbert (Summit Records 2009) and So Far From Home: The Shook-Russo-Young Quartet featuring Greg Gisbert (Summit Records, 2006) on Summit Records featuring internationally renowned trumpeter Greg Gisbert.
