25 YEARS OF PERFORMING & TEACHING EXPERIENCE

At Young’s School of Gospel and Jazz Piano, LLC we teach students the fundamentals of jazz harmony, theory, improvisation and jazz history. Students learn the evolution of the piano throughout the history of jazz when studying styles like ragtime, stride, swing, blues, bebop, and fusion.

Careful attention is given to “playing by ear” or the rote method of teaching versus just reading notes. Students are often assigned pieces from the classical music repertoire to help with their note reading, and musical and technical development.
